2022 Hotlist Africa Edition: Most Expected Properties to Enter the Market

As the year is coming closer to its end, it is perhaps time to take stock of the progress. Despite certain obstacles, a great lot of positive changes have introduced themselves and even more are yet to come! This is precisely what we would like to talk about today: the most expected hotel openings we can’t wait to visit in 2022. This time, we are focusing on Africa, which, as usual, is full of surprises!

According to the Top Hotel Projects construction database, the region is supposed to gain 97 hotels and a total of 20,999 keys in 2022 – and the following properties are the cream of the crop. The lucky countries this time turned out to be Morocco, Mozambique, and Kenya. Some of the most luxurious brands in the world decided to pick them as the locations for their ever-increasing business footprint.

Anantara Al Houara Tangier Resort

A collaboration by two world-renowned brands - Minor Hotel Group and Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company – this newly-built resort in northern Morocco lacks anything but luxe. The property itself is to be operated by the Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, which could boast a long list of successfully managed hotels of various scales. The 150-key scheme forms part of Qatari Diar’s beachfront Al Houara project, planned to be supplemented by an exquisite 18-hole golf course and homes for sale.

Opening in the final quarter of 2022, Anantara Al Houara Tangier Resort will also offer its guests several restaurants and bars, an Anantara Spa, a wellness and a fitness centers, and clubs for kids and teens. The architecture and design concept are being brought to life by WATG and Wimberly Interiors, while Agora Premium is doing magic with the interiors.

Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira, Mozambique

Another exciting newcomer, a Banyan Tree Group family member, this chic property, which is currently under construction, is set to open its doors from the second quarter of 2022. The company’s very first African property establishes itself with masterful grandeur by hosting guests on the private island of Ilha Caldeira 10 km off the mainland. Marine lovers should probably pay extra attention: the hotel will provide exceptional opportunities to get in touch with the life-rich reefs and dreamy beaches, as the island just happens to be a part of the Primeiras and Segundas Archipelago, Africa’s largest marine reserve.

In total, Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira will comprise 40 private pool villas overlooking the Indian Ocean, along with varied amenities including signature Thai restaurant Saffron and the Banyan Tree Spa.

JW Marriott Nairobi

Last but not least, Marriott is looking to up its game in Kenya. The Maryland-headquartered hotel group is set to open a JW Marriott property in Nairobi late in 2022. Developed by AVIC INTL, this under-construction property boasts GMP Architekten and Triad Architects as architects, with interiors being brought to life by George Wong Design.

This hotel is destined to become a part of a mixed-use project alongside an upscale office building and an enviable apartment block with a sumptuous retail area
